I’ve had the pleasure to work with Lumenpulse on a number of occasions now, to capture some of their lighting installations here in New England. This shoot at the Marriott Hotel in Newport Rhode Island gave me the opportunity to showcase some of their interior lighting rather than exterior equipment that I had done previously.
Lumenpulse had been commissioned to work alongside CM Kling & Associates to redesign the lighting in some of the key areas of the hotel along with all the rooms. For this shoot we concentrated on the communal areas and the impact the the new lighting installations had had on these spaces.
The nautical themed front desk of the Marriott with subtly lit, up-lighting and rope backdrop was a great example of the way CM Kling used different Lumenpulse products to create and shape the space for a very pleasing dynamic. Here as with the other areas of the hotel I used only the ambient light available to truly show the effects produced on site by the actual lighting.
Throughout the hotel in all the different areas; the restaurant, the Skiff Bar, the seating area in the main lobby and the smaller bar and breakfast area, the lighting although subtly different carried over and conveyed a common theme and elements. Lighting was used to highlight and bring out the elements of the interior design of each space and to maximize its impact. The lighting although stronger obviously at night still played an important mood setting role during the daylight hours as well.
One of my favorite spaces at this location was the covered indoor seating and hanging chairs around the indoor fountain. The fountain had a large mirrored disk in the base that project the light and ripples in the water, up onto the ceiling to produce a very calm and relaxing space to sit and sip a cocktail or read a book.
Always a pleasure working with Lumenpulse and also CM Kling on this occasion, to see how they worked together to create this unique lighting environment in this grand hotel. Look forward to seeing some of their new work soon and be sure to check out their other work using the links below:
